TCHS Lake Dawgs Move into 7th Place for Anglers of the Year at Clarks Hill Lake

The Toombs County High School fishing team of AJ Bagby and Lane Bagby weighed in 10.22 pounds to secure a 23rd place finish out of 138 high school fishing teams in the Georgia Bass Nation fishing tournament on Clarks Hill Lake this past Saturday, December 13th. This finish moved the Lake Dawgs up into 7th place for Anglers of the Year points race out of 148 high school teams all competing to win High School Fishing Team of the Year.

The Lake Dawgs faced tough weather conditions with a severe post-cold front and high winds. The majority of the high school teams struggled catching fish due to the post cold frontal conditions.

“We had to slow way down given the weather conditions. The fish were sluggish, cold and not willing to chase our baits. We only had 8 bites on derby day and we were fortunate to put all 8 fish in the boat. Our key bait was a green pumpkin neko rigged worm. We found a lot of bass in practice, but they were not willing to bite during the tournament due to the post cold front conditions,” said AJ Bagby.

“In practice, AJ caught a 5.15 largemouth on a jig up the lake. So we went back up the lake on tourney day, but we didn’t get a big fish to bite. We caught a 3.04 and 2.42 pound largemouth bass on a neko rig. But we just couldn’t get the 5+ pound bass to bite. It was a very tough and cold fishing day”, said Lane Bagby.

The Lake Dawgs next GHSA tournament is on Lake Seminole in Bainbridge, GA on January 31st. Go Dawgs!

Toombs County Family,

We are headed BACK TO THE BENZ!

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, our Toombs County Bulldogs will compete for the GHSA Class A Division 1 State Championship for the 2nd consecutive year. We are extremely proud of our football team for earning this opportunity, and equally proud of our band and cheerleaders who will join them and create lasting memories at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Because more than 150 students and staff must travel to Atlanta and be loaded on buses at designated times for the 2:00 p.m. game, we must adjust our school operations for that day.

The Toombs County School System will be closed on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Regular operations will resume on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause, and we appreciate your flexibility and support. We invite the entire Toombs County community to join us in Atlanta as we cheer on our Bulldogs in their pursuit of a State Championship. Please join me in wishing our football team, band, cheerleaders, and coaches the very best as they represent Toombs County with excellence.

Go Dogs!

Mrs. Christian’s AP Government & Politics class wrapped up our Supreme Court Case Bracket Battle!  👩🏽‍⚖️⚖️🚔 Students argued why their assigned case deserved the title of most significant in American history—and they showed up with strong, well-crafted arguments across all 15 cases. These are the landmark decisions they’re required to know for the AP Exam, and their well-developed arguments helped everyone understand and remember the cases even better! Ms. Anthony and Mrs. Ferrell were our judges this year! Georgia Lumley and Adrionna Blackwell (Schenck v. United States) faced off against Top Peterson and Lane Morris (Baker v. Carr) in the championship round. After an impressive final debate, Top and Lane took the win!
