Work-Based Student of the Week Jabori Williams, TCHS Junior, is employed at Foamworks in Vidalia, Georgia. Jabori is responsible for ensuring that all incoming vehicles are prepared for the automated car wash.From this work experience he will learn the critical soft skills needed for success after high school. Mr. Joseph Collins, Foamworks supervisor, states that Jabori is an asset to the business. Toombs County WBL wishes to thank Foamworks Car Wash and all of our other business partners for their support of the Work-Based Learning Program.

🍕 Pizza with the Principal! 🍕 Student Council hosted our very first Pizza with the Principal today, and it was a huge success! This event was created as a way for Student Council to serve as the bridge between the student body and administration. At today’s meeting, four Student Council members presented student ideas and proposals to Mrs. Morris, including: 1️⃣ Club Day/Power Hour by Jean Peterson 2️⃣ A TCHS Clothes Closet by Sarah Ellis Walker 3️⃣ Student-Led Sports Marketing by Arianna Hill 4️⃣ Parents-to-Lunch for the Senior Class by Brockton Estrada After presentations, Mrs. Morris opened the floor for student feedback and asked for student perspectives on certain topics. 👉 Students walked away with real-world skills like leadership, public speaking, teamwork, and problem-solving. 👉 Events like these give students a chance to have their voices heard, build stronger connections with administration, and work together toward positive change. It was a great time eating, sharing ideas, and creating our legacy at TCHS—because everything’s better with pizza and student engagement! 🍕✨ Be on the lookout for some of these ideas coming to life!

On Saturday, September 27th, the Toombs County High School Fishing Team kicked off the 2025-2026 fishing season at Lake Clark’s Hill (Augusta, GA).

Hadden Outdoors hosted the High School MLF (Major League Fishing) style tournament on Lake Clark Hill.

AJ Bagby, a Junior at Toombs County High School, finished in 2nd place at the event. AJ caught 28 bass for a total weight of 42.81 pounds. Evan Beard, Senior at Greenbrier High School and reigning GA Bass Nation State Champion, won the event with 48.81 pounds.

The weather was less than ideal, with a downpour of rain and wind throughout the majority of the event. AJ Bagby caught his fish on a Zoom Winged Fluke, a Deps Sakamata Shad, and a Homegrown Jigs Boujee Shad. AJ was targeting bass that were migrating back into the creek arms, feeding on blueback herring and threadfin shad. The herring and shad migrate in the fall from their deep-water summer hideouts into the shallower creeks as they seek cooler water temperatures, better oxygenated water, and plankton to feed on. The bass follow the baitfish during this fall migration. The key is to find the baitfish and you will find the bass.

The Haddens Outdoors high school tournament is unique as the anglers all fish in specific zones of the lake and the fish are weighed live on the water by the tournament officials. The zones are randomly selected by the tournament director just before blast off. This prevents any practice fishing since the anglers do not know what zones of the lake they will be fishing until the morning of the tournament. Therefore, the anglers must make quick decisions once a zone is announced to locate and catch fish. The leaderboard is updated throughout the tournament so the anglers know exactly how many fish and the weight their competitors have caught. It is a stressful, but very fun way to fish a bass tournament.

The Toombs County Fishing Team will be fishing the GHSA and GA Bass Nation tournament trails this year. The Bulldogs will compete against over 500 Georgia high school fishing teams during these tournaments. The next tournament is scheduled for November 1st, 2025 at West Point Lake (Lagrange, GA).

AJ Bagby caught this 22-pound striped bass during the Clarks Hill tournament. Unfortunately, Striped bass (known as stripers) are not counted is the tournaments. Only largemouth bass and spotted bass are allowed to be weighed in during the high school tournaments.

Work-Based Learning students Michaela Jones and Rigo Mata participated in a community service project at the Lyons Upper Elementary School with The Bridge Project. Work-Based Learning students complete community service each semester as a way to give back to our school and community. Many thanks to Mrs. Rhonda Benton, the project coordinator, for seeking WBL students to assist with this volunteer project.

Today we welcomed representatives from Georgia Tech, who stopped by to discuss programs and opportunities for both educators and students. A few members of our TCHS Student Council are attending the GASC Leadership Summit at the University of Georgia today! They will hear guest speakers from the UGA J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development talk about building leadership skills in high school, the power of communicating clearly, and how to handle conflict like a leader. #leadership #studentcouncil #BeADog #CreateYourLegacy

The TCHS Orchestra had a chance to work with Dr. Steven Elisha, Professor of Low Strings and director the Symphony at Georgia Southern University. The orchestra received instruction on string playing fundamentals and techniques Thank you Dr. Elisha for sharing your time with the students!

On Tuesday, Alex Patrick and Case Conner spoke to the SECCA Board of Directors about the SECCA programs they have been a part of and how that has helped them plan for life after high school. Alex spoke about the Healthcare program, and Clay spoke about the Energy program. Alex is pictured with his instructors, Candace Williams and Lauren Allen.
